After crude oil reaches the refinery terminal, it is pumped into surface storage tanks with storage capacities ranging from thousands to millions of gallons. These tanks are field fabricated floating or fixed roof tanks according to API standards.

 


 

Challenge:

The liquid level of the storage tank is maintained by the actuation/regulation of the valve. Liquid level control prevents overflow by triggering an emergency stop, shutting off the pump when the liquid level drops low. Due to the low flash point of crude oil, the measuring instruments used require safety certification.
